Russia will close its borders in response to the coronavirus outbreak

2020-03-17

Dear Partners,

Effective March 18, 2020, the new measures in response to the COVID-19 outbreak come into force in the Russian Federation.

Government edict 635-R from March 16, 2020 temporarily limits entry into Russia by all foreign citizens and stateless persons. The FMS and the MFA stop processing invitations for entry to Russia. No invitations will be issued, even if an application had been submitted before March 18, 2020. The consulates of Russia abroad stop issuing visas and work permits to the foreign citizens for any purpose of visit.

The edict stresses that these measures are temporary, and will last at least until May 1, 2020.

The ban will not affect local citizens, diplomats, crew, transit passengers or foreign citizens with residency rights. Exceptions will also be made for those travelling following the death of a family member.

We shall continue to provide support to our partners in these difficult times, and our Visa Department will stay available for further information at our office in Moscow.

Best regards,
Visa Department
